Christmas Decorating Ideas

Christmas celebration is a long-standing tradition in Canada.  We all love to celebrate this wonderful holiday season that brings out the best in all of us.  Some are going above and beyond to decorate along rooftops, entryways, lobbies, chimneys and landscaped areas.

The following are a few of my Christmas decorating tips:

  • Always check your Bylaws and make sure that your decorations are not contravening any of its Sections.  If it does, you may suggest a Bylaw amendment at your next AGM (for your coup to be successful, get at least 75% worth of Proxies!)
  • Pick a dry day to decorate the outside of your home.  If you are going to Hawaii… never mind!  If you’re going to Regina… what were you thinking!
  • Avoid working on the roof, stay away from heights and dangers.  Do not be a Chevy Chase and try to signal the International Space Station! Second thought, that would be pretty cool.  Take pictures and email them to me!
  • If you must climb a ladder, do so with care and while two able-bodied adults are helping you.  You should also give them a breathalyzer test.  Safety First! Eggnog Later!  You know what!? Forget the ladder!
  • To avoid frustration with your 3-year-old Christmas lights, always plug them in first before going into the trouble of hanging them alongside your roof’s gutters.  Remember, Christmas is all about FUN and not high blood pressure!  Your doctors, nurses, and psychiatrists deserve a holiday too!
  • Ensure your extension cords are designed for outside cold temperatures (people in Hawaii, never mind!).  The last thing you want is to light the snow puddles on fire!  Your Strata’s insurance may do not have a “Clause” (get it, S. Clause! 😊) in their policy for such a disaster of a person that you could be.  If you did not get my “Clause” joke, I won’t explain it. It will just ruin the whole thing!
  • Conserve energy and do not leave your lights on 24/7.  Don’t just worship Tesla, walk the walk!
  • Your giant inflatable Santas, Snowmen, and Reindeers should not block sidewalks and roadways, nor should they crush little children & puppies.  Tie those inflatables down!

Pink Flamingos are not considered to be Christmas decorations!  You know who you are!

  • Get the kids involved in the house and start the homemade decorations project.  Not only will this save you money buying expensive ornaments in the store, but it will also bring good cheer to your home and will get everyone in the house involved (I saw a movie on this once).  This family project may even help pry cell phones out of the hands of your kids, unless they are annoying teenagers, in which case I have no tips for you.
  • If your Christmas will be Merry and Joyful, I will take all credit, but if you burn the goose, that’s all on you!

From our loved ones to yours, we wish you a very Merry Christmas!
