5 Star Champions | June 2020
Each month we feature five winners and connect their stories to the 5 Star principle they best represent.
Mickey Sanchez, Home Office
Nominated by Jennifer Severance: I know I speak for many of us in the field when I say Mickey has helped us out time and time again. I always thank her, profusely, but I wanted to take a minute and recognize her more formally and through a 5-Star Champion nomination. Although there have been many occasions that she's gone above and beyond, most recently it was on a PAF approval that was missed. After the deadline to submit had passed, I emailed her that they were approved, and I understood that they'd be on the next payroll. She stopped what she was doing and immediately added in the additional pay. I know she didn't have to, but she did it without asking, going above and beyond to ensure we got the payments entered for the current payroll. It meant a lot to me that she went out of her way on a busy holiday payroll processing day and took the time to get it done. Thank you, Mickey, for going the extra mile and being understanding when we are human. You are a joy to have on the team and I value your partnership!
5 Star Principle: Demonstrate Care
Evette McMahon, Associa Northern California
Nominated by Malia Long: Evette is always quick to help and work with any community manager. The pool at one of my associations is in the process of being re-plastered. The project started before COVID began and was almost ready for county review when the shelter in place order was issued. Although the pool gate has been locked, it was still accessible to any member who had a pool gate key. I need someone to install a chain and padlock on top of the regular pool gate. I reached out to her on a Thursday afternoon and she was able to find a tech and have the work scheduled for the next morning. The tech finished and was out of there before the county health inspector was out. Her efforts were amazing and really helped me and the association big time! Much appreciated, Evette and AOC team!!
5 Star Principle: Own the Resolution
Marilyn Weinberger, Somerset
Nominated by Shawn Fazekas: We recently received this outstanding feedback from a homeowner:
We have been residents at 3030 Bryan Street for nearly 2 years. My husband and I wanted to take a moment to share our thoughts regarding our building manager, Marilyn Weinberger. Marilyn has always stood out as an exceptional ambassador who goes above and beyond to ensure the wellbeing and success of our residents. Her business skills and professional capabilities, coupled with her service driven mind-set, makes her a key contributor and a unique difference maker in our community. Marilyn’s positive attitude and ability to effectively manage all situations is extremely impressive! We are truly grateful for Marilyn’s meaningful contributions and support. Marilyn is indeed a diamond in the rough, and a huge asset to any organization.
5 Star Principle: Build Relationships
Terence Landry, CSSC
Nominated by Lou Ann Lincoln: Our branch office is preparing for the return to office. Part of that preparation involves having those team members complete Health & Safety training thru Degreed. I had to reach out to Degreed Support (Terence) every day to request new logins, reset passwords, and send forgotten credentials for my team. There was never a delay in his response - it was always very clear and helpful for my team members. I know we are not the only branch needing this assistance, but Terence made us feel like we are the only team he is servicing. This is 5 Star internal service for sure.
5 Star Principle: Communicative Effectively
Rebecca Sees, Associa Northern California
Nominated by Nicole Stanley: For the last 3 years, I have worked closely with this Rebecca on getting an association funded to make many necessary repairs. After many meetings, which she joined via phone conference each time to answer questions from the community and board, we finally got the approval we had been waiting for and could mail ballots to the membership. This was like hitting the lottery! The next excitement was when the ballots were counted and we learned the community had voted to approve the loan. Rebecca worked so hard to find the right bank to approve the loan, proving her incredible work ethic.
5 Star Principle: Exercise Leadership
