Partner Post: Informed Delivery: What It Is & Why You Need It

Email is the dominant communication platform for most people; however, regular mail is still a daily part of our lives. To integrate the two worlds, the United States Postal Service (USPS) created their Informed Delivery feature. Read on to learn more about Informed Delivery and its benefits.

What is Informed Delivery?

Simply put, Informed Delivery allows homeowners to see what's in their mailbox from their email inbox; it bridges a homeowner's need to interact digitally, without losing the importance of their physical mail. The USPS was already digitally scanning the front of all letter-size mail pieces to assist in the sorting and delivery of mail. With their existing technology, it was a logical transition to display those same images to homeowners in advance of the physical mail delivery.

3 Benefits of Informed Delivery

This new feature from the USPS is a welcomed response from a time-honored service striving to turn a corner with technology. The following are three reasons why you should sign up for Informed Delivery.

1. It’s convenient.

When you use Informed Delivery, you'll know what to expect in the mail before it arrives. Each morning, you can preview what's scheduled to get delivered via email notification, online dashboard, or mobile app.

2. It’s engaging.

With Informed Delivery, users can interact with digital content provided by business mailers, like special offers and related web links. For example, when your HOA assessment statement arrives, you’ll not only see an image of the envelope, but you’ll also be able to click a link that leads to a relevant destination, such as your community association's website.

3. It's free and safe.

Informed Delivery is completely free and safe. The USPS Information Security Program and the Inspection Service monitor the network for unusual activity to ensure that your information is kept safe. It’s available nationwide to eligible residential consumers, as well as those with P.O. Boxes in an eligible ZIP Code. During the sign-up process, homeowners will get prompted to complete an identity verification form to confirm their home address.
