Rental Corner: COVID-19 & Legislation

We trust you are keeping well during the pandemic. It has changed the day-to-day operation of our company, including Rhome, our Rental Division, as most of us are working remotely from home. We have established strict procedures to protect the best interests of our investor clients, our tenants, and our staff.

COVID-19 has caused changes in legislation relating to rent collection, rent increases, and tenancies, which has created a quick learning curve for our Rhome team. The BC Temporary Rental Supplement Program offered rent subsidies for qualified tenants ran for 5 months since April. Both rent increases and termination of tenancy were halted during the period. New procedures were implemented in no time to handle all these first-ever situations.

Various guidelines and procedures were implemented by the Residential Tenancy Branch which we adhered to. Although all the mentioned prohibitions are lifted now, our team is working diligently to catch up with any delinquencies and implementation of rent increases, and any issues that arise due to this legislated period.
