Here are some tips for what's on sale, what's in season and what chores are the smartest this season. 

November

Buy: Birdseed, indoor bulbs, houseplant fertilizer

Eat: winter squash, pumpkins, kale

Do: Rake leaves, cover tender plants, start forcing amaryllis and paperwhite bulbs

December

Buy: Christmas trees, poinsettias, microgreens kits

Eat: Grapefruit, clementines, sweet potatoes

Do: Clean & sharpen tools, check indoor plants for pests

January

Buy: New tools, houseplants, indoor seeds

Eat: Turnips, cabbage, citrus

Do: Start seeds indoors, plan your garden, recycle your Christmas Tree
