ASSOCIATION MANAGEMENT
SPECIALIST (AMS
®
)
The nationally recognized Association Management Specialist (AMS
®
) designation establishes
that managers have an advanced understanding of the operations and decision-making involved in
managing an HOA for an extended period. A higher level of certification beyond the CMCA
®
, AMS
®
allows managers to manage larger, more complex HOAs. To gain AMS
®
credentials, community
association managers have to:
• Gain two years of verified experience with at least one association. This experience must
come from financial, administrative, and facilities management.
• Successfully complete at least two M-200 level courses. There are six M-200 level courses
for managers to choose from.
• Successfully pass the CMCA
®
exam. Managers should already have completed the exam
when they earned their CMCA
®
designation from CAMICB.
• Complete the application for the designation. An application fee must be paid with the
submitted application.
To maintain AMS
®
credentials, managers pay annual maintenance fees, complete continuing
education requirements every three years, and continuously comply with the CAI Professional
Manager Code of Ethics.
