CERTIFIED MANAGER OF COMMUNITY ASSOCIATIONS (CMCA ® ) The Certified Manager of Community Associations (CMCA ® ) certification is offered by the Community Association Managers International Certification Board (CAMICB), an organization established by CAI. This is the first step in certification for many community association managers and the only international certification program. By obtaining this certification, managers establish a fundamental understanding of the skills required to manage a community. To become CMCA ® certified, managers must: • Pass a prerequisite community association management course. There are three options available to complete this requirement, including CAI's M-100 course, The Essentials of Community Association Management. Managers can bypass the prerequisite if they have five or more years of experience or hold state-level certification in Arizona, California, Florida, Illinois, or Nevada. • Submit an online application for the CMCA ® exam. The application is available on the CAMICB website. • Pass the CMCA ® exam. All applicants, including those who bypass the prerequisite course, must complete an exam with 100 scored questions. The exam tests applicants on a variety of management topics. Course-goers are eligible to retake the exam if they fail at any time as long as they pay the required fee. • Comply with CAMICB standards. Violation of any standards may be grounds for administrative action and revocation of the CMCA ® credential. Managers must recertify every two years by completing 16 hours of continuing education courses and submitting the recertification application with a service fee payment.
