1. OWN UP TO MISTAKES
While it can be difficult for the board to admit to a mistake, pretending like it didn't
happen may do more harm than good. In most cases, acknowledging the error and
striving to resolve it is the best way for the community to move forward.
Admit the mistake by preparing a clear, concise, and thoughtful message to
homeowners that includes:
• A sincere apology from the board
• A brief explanation of what happened and how it affects residents
• The board's plans to rectify the mistake
• How you'll prevent it from happening again
Mistakes happen, and being vulnerable and owning up to them not only humanizes
the board, but also shows that it prioritizes honesty and integrity. These values build
a strong foundation for residents to trust the board's decisions.
