4. REMAIN
NEUTRAL
Board members are dedicated to doing
what's best for the community—not
themselves or a select group of people.
In fact, most boards have a mandated
Board of Directors Code of Professional
Ethics. This code typically outlines
expected behavior regarding integrity
and objectivity, technical standards,
conflicts of interest, and more.
Not only is it part of your ethical duty,
but remaining neutral in a conflict
is also key to finding a solution.
Don't take sides or show favoritism
towards any party. Conflicts are hard,
but concentrate on maintaining a
good attitude and staying positive—it
helps. Being calm and professional
in all situations promotes good faith
and offers an avenue for a mutually
beneficial outcome.
