MYTH HOAs are stodgy and not suited for young-adult living. FACT Many of today's HOAs are forward-thinking and progressive. As the demographics of homebuyers begin to shift, communities are adapting to the wants and needs of their future residents. With millennials entering the home buying market at an increasing rate, more and more communities are: OFFERING AN EXPERIENCE As some buyers look to put down roots, they want more than just a place to call home. With a lifestyle that focuses on being active, exploring new places, and getting outdoors, this younger generation prioritizes location and amenities. And associations are responding, featuring upgraded pools, wide-open walking paths, and large playgrounds. INVESTING IN TECHNOLOGY To provide the same convenience you experience in all other aspects of your life, communities are taking advantage of technology. Community-centric tech solutions allow owners to communicate quickly, easily manage their accounts and payments online, and can even provide additional features such as seamless amenity rentals and package locker codes for more secure package deliveries. GETTING SOCIAL Understanding the importance of social interaction, some communities have social committees dedicated to engaging homeowners and fostering a stronger sense of community. Volunteering to serve on a committee is one of the many ways people can become involved and get to know their neighbors. Often, communities might also host events like movie nights at the pool or block parties. GOING GREEN Communities are typically aware of their environmental impact and are making strides to reduce their carbon footprint. Some offer walkability near public transit and trails, expanded green spaces, community clean up days, and electric car charging ports.
