There's a trend among state legislatures to try to relieve the financial strains
of increasing insurance costs for community associations. The states that
have considered legislation in 2026 seeking to offer some sort of financial
relief from insurance costs include:
Associa's government affairs team has worked with some of these state
legislators to expand reach, allowing associations to access the state's
Insurer of Last Resort. The Insurer of Last Resort program provides insurance
to organizations that typically cannot obtain coverage from private insurers.
Other states are working to enact laws requiring insurers to offer discounts
for upgrades to homes and units that reduce potential for weather-related
damage ("hardening").
