What It Is: A mixed-use development integrates residential and commercial or
retail uses in a single, coordinated environment.

How It Operates: Many mixed-use communities have sub-associations—one
residential and one commercial—under a master association, others have
separate associations, and some have just one association with proportional
board representation. Because the structures of mixed-use communities differ,
