TRANSPARENCY ON THE
ESCALATION PROCESS
Repeated non-payment of HOA fees and assessments can lead
to escalation by the association. Penalties may start as fines
but can build all the way up to a lien being put on the home. The
most serious consequence? Foreclosure. Boards need to be
open and share these consequences before they occur.
Failure to be transparent about next steps can create confusion
for homeowners and make them less proactive about making
payments. Tell residents about the repayment options that
can satisfy a debt and the legal consequences of repeated
noncompliance, so that they understand what's at stake.
