1. ARCHITECTURAL
CONTROLS
To protect community aesthetics and property
values, HOAs may have safeguards that control
what residents can and cannot do to their
homes' architectural structures. Architectural
policies are usually upheld by an architectural
review board. This committee manages
requests for architectural changes submitted
by homeowners, approving or rejecting them
based on their compliance with architectural
standards, among other factors. Oftentimes,
architectural guidelines cover:
• Paint colors and finishes
• Design, height, and placement specifications
for new structures
• Home garden layouts
• Fencing materials
• Roofing materials
