06 HAVE AN EMERGENCY RESPONSE PLAN IN PLACE Winter storms can lead to power outages, damage from strong winds, and other complications. Preparing for these events with an established emergency response plan helps mitigate risks and destruction. Share this plan with residents and make sure it includes information on: • Emergency Kits: Give residents ideas on what to include in their emergency kits, such as flashlights, batteries, blankets, non-perishable food, water, and first aid supplies. • Backup Power Solutions: Equip your community with generators to serve as a backup power solution in a winter weather emergency. In your plan, identify what these generators will power and advise residents on the rules for sourcing power from a community-owned generator. • Emergency Contacts: Provide residents with the phone numbers of all important agencies (police, fire department, community management company, etc.) and the names and contact information of emergency response-assigned board members. • Local Community Resources: Include details on local community social media, radio, and television channels for monitoring weather risks and traffic conditions. 6 5 4 3 7 8 9 10 2
