1. Preheat broiler and position rack 2-4 inches from the heat source.
2. Brown Italian sausage with diced onions in a medium saucepan. Add garlic and cook for 60-90 seconds.
3. Transfer the mixture to a bowl and stir in salt, cream cheese, and chopped mushroom stems. Set aside.
4. Brush each mushroom cap with melted butter and season with salt. Broil mushroom caps stem-side
down for 2½ minutes.
5. Remove caps from broiler, turn over, and stuff each with the prepared filling.
Sprinkle with cheese and breadcrumbs.
6. Return mushrooms to broiler for 2-4 minutes, until cheese is bubbly and
breadcrumbs are golden-brown.
