FACT
A well-run association provides the proper framework for a great
community living experience. Established rules and regulations are
designed to promote harmony and prevent problems like loud music,
barking dogs, and neglected lawns before they become a real issue. They
also provide guidance on the usage of common spaces, meeting areas,
and activity centers so neighbors and community members have equal
opportunities to come together and socialize.
In general, HOAs help ensure owners are properly caring for their homes and that a
consistent look and feel is maintained throughout a given neighborhood. The rules are in
place for a reason and allow everyone in the community to benefit from association living.
But, it's also important to note that the rules and regulations can—and sometimes do—
change. It's always in the board's best interest to work with residents to keep lines of
communication open, review existing rules, identify areas that may need adjustment, and
examine processes needed to amend the regulations that don't hold value for the
association. Before purchasing a home, request to see the association's governing
documents, where specific rules and the methods to change them will be outlined.
